Monkeysphere's Lunch

"the Dunbar number (or Monkeysphere), (which is 150 for humans), represents a theoretical maximum number of individuals with whom a set of people can maintain a social relationship, the kind of relationship that goes with knowing who each person is and how each person relates socially to every other person".

The people who exist outside our monkeysphere are not people to us. They're sort of one-dimensional bit characters. like - for example - you don't think of the garbage guy as a father/brother/son to someone, someone who's hands might get cut because you don't wrap your smashed dishes properly, you think of him as the Thing That Makes the Trash go Away.

it sounded like my old theory of how each person is like a nightclub.
you can only let so many people in and after a certain number you start asking for 20 pieces of ID so you can refuse entry.
and how you can't let fat people in because they take up space for 2 people.
and how in the end you leave the club you're just so glad the hot dog guy is still standing out there
cause now you can pig out because you'd been starving yourself the past 2 days
just to fit in the skank top.

...yeah no one ever thinks about the hot dog guy.
