putting the 'mental' in environmental

Apparently gold nuggets (the size of which you see in pictures with guys with pick axes and mules) are unheard of these days.
Apparently, most of the known gold deposits in the world are invisible to the human eye.
As in small.
As in teeny.
As in microscopic (see ex bf #1, 4 and 5).
Apparently, instead of pick axes and mules, we use industrial open-pit mines and cyanide (the chemical of choice), and the processing of up to 30 tons of waste rock before coming up with enough gold for a single gold ring.
According to Worldwatch lnstitute ,the 2,402 tons of gold produced in 1997 resulted in 725 million tons of waste, which was contaminated with metals, acids, and solvents.
Not to mention the havoc wreaked upon the locals.
In Ghana, in the mid-1990s, thousands of traditional farmers were evicted and replaced by World Bank-sponsored gold mining operations covering hundreds of square kilometers

In February eight jewelry companies (Helzberg Diamonds, Fortunoff, Cartier, Piaget, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Tiffany and Co. among others) - signed on to a national campaign called "No Dirty Gold." - opening a door that could lead to responsibly sourced gold.

Blah blah blah.

I want a ring from Tiffanys.
...or i'm coming over with a pick axe and a mule.

maybe not so much the mule.

Mean's pretty booked up these days.
