mom, interrupted
Luke's milestones 2 months: holding bottle, holding head up 3.5 months: rolling onto front (it was very hard to watch him try - he would turn red sometimes from the effort). 4 months: rolling onto back 5 months: military crawl (scooting on belly), sitting up 6 months: crawling (forward) on hands and knees, 2 bottom teeth came in, signs of stranger anxiety. 7 months: pulls himself up on furniture, sits down from upright position, 'cruises'. climbs steps, likes banging toys to make noise, bangs toys on fishtank, holds arms up to be picked up. on the verbal progress we think he's behind. it's all gibberish, squeels and yells. the book says he's supposed to be practising his consonants. he's still on vowels, otherwise, a lot of the time he's pretty quiet. when we sign 'milk' he either gets really excited or he starts crying (if he's really thirsty/hungry). i know when to change him most of the time because he starts pulling on the waistband of his diaper. he's never cried for a dirty diaper so i check every few hours or watch for the signal. he recognizes his name, turns his head when called. he understands 'kisses' and gives the open mouth kiss for Mamma/Mummy and papa. if he sees an exposed belly or back, he'll kiss that too. or bite. the other day he crawled under the couch and came out the other side. schedulewise he wakes up around 9am - or at least i'll hear him playing in his crib when i wake up at 9am. 9 am: wakeup, playtime 11am: first nap, 12pm: breakfast (usually cereal), playtime 3pm: nap, bath, playtime 6pm: dinner, last nap of the day 7-8pm: storytime, bedtime it's pretty mixed. sometimes we'll go the the library. i'll turn on the kids channel and we'll dance to something. if i have a book on cd i'll play it. if Michael has a meeting close to the University, we'll go to the mall...usually it's 'climb-on- mummy-while-she-watches-TV' in the livingroom. right now i can hear him squealing in his crib as i just put him down for a nap. he'll be asleep before 11am. he gets pretty cranky if he doesn't get his naps in. i just checked and he's asleep. it took him 10 minutes. this means i have about half an hour to fix my resume, check my email, watch this awful movie - Pet Semetary II - which didn't deserve the one star that they rated it, and get ready to head to the library after Luke wakes up - or after Law and Order at 11am. along with the usual things - fix bottles, make sure the diaper bag has everything, i should wash the floors, tidy up a bit, find cabinets for the TV unit so Luke won't pull stuff out off the shelves anymore. i need to start another story, get that children's book package so i can get an idea of what to put in a book proposal, finish the Family Halloween graphics page that i started, design at least ONE halloween and start thinking about Christmas. ok, now i have 10 minutes.
