i've always wanted a pony
up until now all i knew was that i puked a lot more, my stomach growled a lot more - and have broken down sobbing during Extreme Home Make over more than twice. it wasn't really until the obstetrician put that doppler on my belly this afternoon - that things became concrete. a doppler looks like a white box with a tube and scanner attached. then they put this jelly on your belly and turn the little machine on, and run the scanner over your skin. i lay there listening and the first sound we hear distinctly is this steady beating. 'that's your heartbeat. ' she says. then we heard a little fluttering - really fast and then it faded. 'that was the baby,' she said. then she started moving the scanner thing in another direction...'ba bump, ba bump..' was that it? nope - still mine. i read somewhere they said it sounded similar to the clicking of of horse hooves (what?). i was straining to hear something but i didn't want to get my hopes up as i've been thinking that maybe i'm far less along in weeks than they say. and additionally, the baby's the size of a plum, how much can be detected at that size? As soon as she moved to the right of my belly button, we could hear it right away. louder than mine. double time. 'dub dub dub dub dub dub'. she calculated 160 beats per minute. it was the coolest thing i've ever heard.
